Gastric Balloon

Obesity and Metabolic Surgery

It is one of the methods used for non-surgical treatment of obesity. It can be applied endoscopically or in the form of a swallowable balloon. The gastric balloon is inflated until it reaches a certain volume. Having a space-occupying balloon in the stomach helps the individual reduce the amount of food he eats in terms of volume.

Although balloons have different usage periods, they are generally expected to be removed after about 6 months or, in some products, to be eliminated from the body. Although they are a non-surgical method, weight regain is common after removal.

They are not considered a permanent method. Unfortunately, even if surgery is not performed, various complications may occur. In some cases, it can also be used for preoperative preparation in order to make the surgery easier and reduce its risk in those who are too overweight for surgery.
